Freestanding ERs and Hospital Ers

Freestanding ERs and Hospital Ers

Where to go when an emergency occurs can be a little confusing, especially when the situation is stressful and urgent. There are multiple places to go, but not every emergency room is the same. A freestanding ER and a hospital ER will provide different trauma care, have different wait times, and have a different out-of-pocket cost.

Freestanding Emergency Rooms

Freestanding ERs are open every day of the week for 24 hours. They generally have much shorter wait times than hospital emergency rooms, but one thing they don’t include is trauma care. Depending on the situation surrounding your emergency, the patient may be transferred to a hospital ER that has the necessary tools and equipment to handle your medical situation. The bill is usually less than a hospital bill would be.

Hospital Emergency Rooms

Hospital ERs, like freestanding ERs, are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. have an average wait time of 3 hours because they take patients based on the severity of the emergency. Hospitals have adequate trauma care, so once you are there they can take care of everything and get your medical situation treated. The costs of a hospital ER are much higher than freestanding ERs.
